Checking domain availability
Check one domain or a list of up to 5,000 against registry zone files, DNS, RDAP and WHOIS, with honest result states.
The Checker answers whether a domain can be registered. Type one name, or paste or import a list, choose the extensions, and results stream in as they arrive.
What you can enter
- Names such as
meridian: each is checked in every extension you selected. - Full domains such as
meridian.io: checked as they are, in any extension axath supports, whether or not it is selected. A full domain is never combined with other extensions (nomeridian.io.com). - Files: drag a text or CSV file onto the input, or use Import. Entries that are not valid domains, or that use an unknown extension, are listed so you can remove them.
How an answer is found
- For 349 extensions, axath first reads the registry's daily zone file, so a name in the zone is answered as registered at once.
- A DNS pass follows. A delegated name is registered.
- The registry is asked over RDAP, the structured successor to WHOIS (IETF RFCs 7480 to 7484 and 9224), from your browser where the registry allows it.
- Where RDAP gives no clear answer, the registry's own WHOIS is asked. Nothing is called available because a lookup failed.
Result states
- Available: the registry (RDAP or WHOIS) said the name is not registered.
- Likely available: the name is not in the zone file and has no DNS, but the registry has not confirmed it (a lookup limit, no answer in time, or a large check, where names are not confirmed one by one). Confirm at the registrar.
- Registered: the zone file, DNS, RDAP or WHOIS shows the name, usually with registrar, creation and expiry dates. Single-character .com and .net names are reserved by the registry and always show as registered.
- For sale: registered, and listed on a public marketplace with an asking price.
- Not verified (Review): no usable answer yet. Retry it, or confirm at a registrar. axath never rounds an unclear answer up to available.
- Error: the lookup failed; retry it.
A registrar can still disagree: a name may be premium (priced above the standard rate), reserved by the registrar, or registered in the minutes since the check. Every available result links out to confirm and buy.
Limits
500 domains and 5 extensions per check without an account, 2,000 and 10 on Free, 5,000 and 20 on Pro, 5,000 and 25 on Scale. The number of checks is not limited on any plan.
Privacy of what you search
Searched names are never sold, never registered by axath, and never passed to registrar marketing. A lookup reaches a DNS resolver and the registry, because that is what a lookup is.
