Who is Afternic?

Afternic is a domain aftermarket: owners list names they want to sell, and registrars show those listings to customers searching for a domain. GoDaddy bought Afternic in September 2013, together with the parking service SmartName and the name generator NameFind, and runs it as its aftermarket network.

Who owns Afternic?

GoDaddy. It bought Afternic in 2013 and kept it running under its own name as GoDaddy’s aftermarket for names that already have an owner.

Why does Afternic appear in zone data?

Owners can point a domain they are selling to Afternic’s nameservers, which show a for-sale page. Analytics counts those names under Afternic, so a move from Afternic to another provider can mean a name was sold or taken off the market.
